May 2018 my mom and I visited my mom’s brother in Thunder Bay Ont. Canada

This trip has changed our life. We had not seen my moms brother in almost 30 years. He was very sick and it was the last chance for us to see him alive. What an emotional moment when we arrived and finally met him and his children and grandchildren. But what then happend ….
In the morning of the last day of our 5 day trip my mom slipped out in the bathtub, fell down and hit the floor with her head. She was brought to the local hospital and had to have an emergency surgery on her head since blood was putting pressure on her brain. At 87 years the risk of such a surgery is very high and it takes a lot longer to recover from such an incident. We had to wait 10 days after surgery until she was in a stable condition to travel by plane. A special Jet with a three pilots crew, intensive care and two German medicals flew to Thunder Bay and brought my mom and me back to Düsseldorf.
My mom is still in the hospital as of August 5th 2018 and has not yet recovered from her accident. Her brother has passed away in June 2018. My dad is depressed because he is not with his wife and can only visit her sometimes at the hospital. One moment that has changed a families life forever.

The two bavarian medicals who took care of my mom during the flight back was really great. They spread such a great aura from the moment when they arrived at the hospital and during the whole flight until we arrived after only 8 hours in Düsseldorf. Thank you again to the pilots and the medi team but also to anyone who has been a part of this yourney.

Barney was also with us and these pictures which I took on the day we traveled back to Germany are the most special pictures of the blog.
